Translink Busway Operations
Responsible for bus, train and ferry services across Southeast Queensland, Translink coordinates and runs one of the world’s largest public transport systems. Within the BMTMC, Translink Busways Operations manages an extensive busway network, which offers congestion-free, fast and reliable bus services in and out of Brisbane’s CBD.
With 27.3 kilometres of dedicated bus roadway and 26 busway stations, the busway serve over 73 million passengers each year. To move such a large numbers of people in and out of the CBD, staff at Translink’s Busways Operations Centre work 24/7 to ensure the safety and security of passengers and bus drivers alike.
Their responsibilities include proactive monitoring of the busways and stations with the help of more than 700 CCTV cameras, real- time management of safety and security incidents, and field response teams.
They also monitor emergency phones on all busway platforms, and operate an automated system of motion detection cameras and sensors that alert staff in case of breakdowns in the busway tunnels.
It all adds up to a state-of-the-art bus system that rivals motorways for carriage capacity and railways for reliability.
